Marble Falls ISD community is invited to Meet the Mustangs

Another year of sports kicks off with the annual Meet the Mustangs community event at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, at the Marble Falls High School campus.

The event allows the community to meet and cheer on the 2024 athletes in football, volleyball, cross country, golf and swimming. The tennis team would normally attend except it has a match at Copperas Cove at 4 p.m. on the same date.

The cheerleaders and Starlettes dance team will direct the applause and show what they’ve been working on for the last several months. Members of Marble Falls Youth Football and Cheer also will be part of the festivities.

“All of our teams will get recognized,” Marble Falls High School Principal Patrick Hinson said. “The Starlettes and Cheerleaders will perform.”

The school district has invited several people to speak including Shannon Roberts, president of Marble Falls Athletic Booster Club, the primary fundraising arm of the department. Roberts will tell attendees how they can get involved.

“She’ll talk about what it does for all sports,” Hinson said.

The principal is looking forward to the event.

“It’s a great kickoff to the fall and fall schedule,” he said. “It’s a way to get our community and kids excited about what’s coming. It’s a chance to showcase all the fall sports kids.”

Hinson, who is beginning his second year, noted Meet the Mustangs was held at the same time in 2023. Meet the Mustangs is happening after the Freshman Stampede ends.

The stampede introduces ninth-graders to campus life where they can see the different activities they can join, learn more about the campus, figure out where their classes are located, and other tasks before the start of the school year, the principal said.

“We invite freshmen to pick up their schedules, walk the campus, talk to counselors and assistant principals,” he said.

Traditionally, the stampede is a come-and-go event. But organizers are hoping to entice the freshmen and their families to stay for Meet the Mustangs.

“We already have a captive audience,” Hinson said. “We’re trying to bolster attendance for both. It tends to be pretty busy. We thought we’d help the attendance for both.”
